Brief Resume
Jerry Conway is an engineering geologist and rock mechanics engineer with 25 years experience in the application of these disciplines on transportation, water supply, hydropower, mining and hazardous waste management projects. His career began on the Dinorwic Pumped Storage Scheme with responsibilities for geotechnical data collection, monitoring and support detailing during construction. Following further tunnel construction experience in Kenya, he worked on the investigation and design of major highway tunnels in the UK, and water supply tunnels in the Near East. Over a five-year period in the USA, he was involved in underground testing for several radioactive waste management facilities, as well as design and construction of numerous civil tunnelling and mining projects. He returned to the UK as rock-mechanics engineer on Pen-y-Clip tunnel, and established SubTerra Engineering in 1992. Since that time he has worked on a wide range of tunnelling and underground excavation projects in the UK and overseas, advising both client organisations and contractors on geotechnical issues relating to feasibility, site investigation, design, construction supervision and claims evaluation, particularly in the areas of rockmass quality, excavation performance prediction and blast vibration.
